The Blend: This private blend ultimately contains bourbon from nine individual barrels. It is the marriage of two unique blends.

The first blend, which accounts for 39% of the blend, is a 7-year barrel of bourbon that we constructed similarly to the last release we did for Seelbach s. It began as a 7-year 53-gallon single barrel. In April 2024, a small cognac-style elevage addition of bourbon from a 7-year 15-gallon barrel was added. As a cask in-and-of-itself, it was a much more classic Kentucky oak flavor profile than most of our inventory.

The second blend, which accounts for the remaining 61% of the blend, is a vatted tank of six 6-year and one 7-year 15-gallon bourbons. The barrels were vatted with this release in mind. They add loads of depth and richness to the blend. Obviously, due to the small-format cooperage, these present much more in our classic heavy char dessert-rich dark fruit style.

Once Denaya made the pick, the 7-year 53-gallon cognac-style single barrel was added to the already-marrying vat of 15-gallon bourbons, and they married together for two weeks before bottling.

Tasting Notes: The nose is rich and dense – sawdust, sticky dark fruit, honey grahams, thick caramel, leather, and grape jelly.

The palate is huge and coating, gobs of raisin, date and dark cherry with cascading spices and tropical fruit hitting against the palate. There’s a flip of whipped cream on there as it opens, with cacao, espresso, leather, all gripping and foundational to the sips.

The finish is deep, and trailing. This is a dark toned molasses-like pour that’s slow to leave.

About Kings Count Barrel Strength: Clocking in at 126-133 proof depending on the batch, Kings County Barrel Strength Bourbon is blended from older barrels than our flagship bourbon, aged anywhere from four to seven years. Many enthusiasts prefer whiskey undiluted from the barrel, as it offers a more intense concentration of flavor. Bold and complex, this is our most consistently acclaimed limited-release offering. Among many awards, Breaking Bourbon listed it as a “Best Craft Whiskey” of 2020.

Awards:
